Car Organization Hacks

Written by Melanie McConnell as part of our blog posting Collaboration

What is one space that almost all of us use the most often (besides the fridge)? Our cars! No matter what you do for work/life, you probably drive your car at least a few times a week. Those most-

used spaces are so important to keep organized. Cars can be a little tricky with all of the small and oddly shaped spaces, but here are some of my favorite car organization hacks to help you travel with ease!

  • Keep your cup holders clean with silicone cupcake liners. When they get dirty, just take them out & give them a rinse!

  • Put a laundry basket in the back when you’re going grocery shopping. You’ll be able to handle multiple bags with ease.

  • Keep small, loose items in repurposed plastic cases (like this gum case or q-tip case)—things like hair ties, chargers, gift cards, etc.

  • Keep baby wipes and hand sanitizer in your side door compartment. They’ll come in handy at gas stations & on longer road trips.

  • Keep a duster in the side door. If you’re at a red light, whip that thing out and dust the dash.

  • Keep backup snacks, diapers, tissues, etc., in short, lidded containers under the front seats.

  • Keep your emergency supplies in the trunk.

Get a sturdy crate and fill it with water bottles, a first aid kit, emergency roadside kit, blankets, etc.

  • Use a small labeled accordion file in the glove box for all important car documents.

  • Organize your center console with small, clear containers. Or zippered pouches.

No matter what hack you try, it has to make sense for you and your family. If you have young kids, you may need some more toys and entertainment in the car. You may need something to store and carry the stinky equipment if you have older kids. If you work a lot, you may need some more space for chargers. If picking out the correct system is overwhelming for you, feel free to give me a call! My specialty is helping people figure out what is best for them and their spaces.

Happy driving!
